Khalil Mamoon Shisha Shop – Cairo, Egypt

I’ve been reading through the posts of several shisha smoking forums of late and a question I keep hearing come up time and time again is, “where can I find the Khalil Mamoon shisha shop in Cairo, Egypt?”

The posts usually start with something like “I am going on holiday to Egypt next month and wondering where I can buy a authentic Khalil Mamoon?”

There seems to be many replies to the question, addresses provided, offers of posting to hotels in Sharm El Sheikh or even guided tours and help from local Egyptians that are willing to take you to the Khalil Mamoon shisha shop in Cairo’s bazaar.

The one thing I have not found is a map of where the Khalil Mamoon shisha shop is located, this is why I have decided to write a post and provide a Google map pin pointing the location of the shop for all of those who may be visiting.

Google Map of Khalil Mamoon Shisha Shop in Cairo, Egypt

Al Moez Ldin Allah Al Fatmi, El-gamaleya, Qism El-gamaleya, Cairo, Egypt

And for those of you now using smart phones it should be dead easy to find if you use the following longitude and latitude coordinates 30.051490, 31.261600 to guide you in.

Shisha Iphone App

I came accross this short article about a new shisha app for your Iphone.

Using GPS it pin points the nearest shisha bars to where you are. The app has hundreds of bars listed accross the UK and I read somewhere that it also covers the USA.

Unfortunatly for me I don’t have an Iphone yet but I have seen it in action on my friends phone. Here is a screen shot

Download it and try it out http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/shisha-app/id430254639?mt=8

Shisha at Merryland

I just got back from smoking shisha at Merryland and thought I would write a quick blurb about my experience. Merryland hosts a collection of outside restaurants and shisha cafes located in Roxy, Cairo.

Having not visited for over a year I was surprised when I looked down the shisha menu and discovered that a single bowl of local grade shisha tobacco was almost $4 or imported al fakher shisha tobacco at $6!

I opted for the local grade and selected from the 20 plus flavours a mint molasses manufactured by nakhla. Within minutes the shisha pipe was brought over to my table with a disposable hose followed by a waiter with a pan of glowing coals. After placing the coals on top of my bowl I was set to start smoking.

I started smoking and for the first few minutes the quality and taste of the smoke was unmatched by any other shisha tobacco I had tried before, however after 10 minutes more the smoke had become so harsh it was starting to make me cough! I called over the waiter who took the bowl off and blew through it, put it back on top of the pipe with just a single piece of coal and cleared the smoke from the base. He handed back the hose and said “try” to my surprise the taste and quality was back.

He went on to explain that there had been to much coal placed on top of the bowl and therefore the tobacco was burning rather then smouldering. So if you ever find your shisha tasting a bit harsh reduce the amount of coal.

Saalaam Herbal Shisha

Yesterday I met with the manufacturers of Saalaam herbal shisha. Saalaam herbal shisha is a new herbal molasses for shisha pipes manufactured in Egypt.

The manufacturers claim that only organic ingredients are used in the blend making for the smoothest herbal shisha yet. Saalaam shisha tobacco free molasses is 100 % Nicotine Free but still tastes great

I only sampled the one flavour (Boyson Berry) but thoroughly enjoyed it. A clean, sweet, strong while smooth shisha flavour that compares well against other herbal shisha brands.
